Program duration: 2 weeks
Venture to the small Indonesian island of Nusa Penida and participate in a Turtle Conservation project that helps protect endangered sea turtles of Bali.
By joining this program, you will have the opportunity to work with a local team with the ultimate goal of increasing the sea turtle population in the area. As a wildlife lover or someone interested in wildlife, conservation, and the outdoors, this is the program meant for you!
Volunteers on this program can expect the following:
Participation in this program must be for a minimum of 2 weeks, and volunteers should be at minimum 18 years old unless volunteering alongside a parent or guardian.
Volunteers should arrive into Ubud or Denpasar the day prior to their start date. Pickup will be arranged.
The orientation is important for volunteers in order to learn everything you need to know about the upcoming project. You'll have the opportunity to meet other volunteers and get to know what lies ahead.
The orientation week will look something like this:
Day 1: Intro to IVHQ Program and local staff, Local customs, rules, expectations, safety. You'll have the opportunity for a walking tour of Ubud, followed by a dinner and Balinese dance show.
Day 2: Local language lesson and a village walk of the countryside. Visit rice paddies nearby.
Day 3: Language lessons & Batik painting class
Day 4: Cooking class and flower making class. A discussion regarding the upcoming project will follow.
Day 5: Visit a temple and receive an intro to the program.
You will then travel to your project.
First Project Day:
Welcome to your volunteer placement! Today you will be escorted to the placement by a local coordinator. You'll then be introduced to the placement staff.
8:00 am - Start your day with breakfast at the volunteer house
9:00 am - You will spend 1-2 hours preparing and planning for your project, and then head to the placement around 1:00pm. Your work and hours depend on the project and placement.
12:00 pm - Lunch
5:00 pm - Your project usually ends around this time. You'll be free to go sightseeing, or just relax.
7:00-8:00 pm - Dinner at the volunteer house
