More than simply whale watching, this trip takes you from Puerto López Mateos south to Puerto San Carlos. Along the way, you’ll visit mangrove canals, secluded beaches and sand dunes. Look for gray whales, birds and more while learning how to prepare local delicacies.
Your guide will meet you at your hotel early in the morning with snacks and coffee. We’ll have breakfast en route to Magdalena Bay at one of our favorite ranchos and along the way learn some of the natural history of the region. Arriving to López Mateos we will board the skiff and head out into the bay in search of whales. Your naturalist guide will share their knowledge of these magnificent creatures and story of their incredible yearly migration. From López Mateos we will then head south by boat, taking in the incredible scenery, and stopping along the way at a secluded beach on Magdalena Island for a picnic lunch and a hike up the sand dunes. We will continue south, exploring the mangrove canals and arriving at Puerto San Carlos. Settle in to your hotel and relax, or join our chef for a sample course on regional cuisine.
After a good night’s rest get up early and watch Magdalena Bay come to life and you will see why it is known as the jewel of the Pacific. After a hot breakfast we will head out on the water in search again for gray whales. After lunch we will board the van and head back to La Paz, full of amazing memories from Magdalena Bay!
