Help protect the penguin population on Robben Island, off the coast of South Africa, with this Earthwatch volunteer expedition. Robben Island is in constant threat of oil spills and shipping traffic related issues since it is in the path of  major shipping industries. The population of penguins has decreased by 90% in the last decade, leaving only 15,000 which need your help!

Join local researchers to study and monitor the penguins and other seabirds on the island. You will learn to survey their populations and breeding success rates as well as take part in the exciting new tracking device using remote cameras to detect specific birds. Aside from helping the birds, you will also have the opportunity to explore Cape Town and other popular tourist destinations.
