Explore The Land Of The Midnight Sun On A Thrilling Polar Bear Tour

People from all over the world travel to the Arctic regions of the world in search of one mystical animal, the Polar Bear. The bears are well revered in Indigenous folklore and have symbolic meaning among other cultures.

There is much evidence available to support the polar bears’ IUCN status as “Vulnerable” and polar bears are victims of climate change, habitat loss, and pollution. Studies have been conducted which point to the prediction that two-thirds of the polar bear population around the world may disappear by 2050, due to the melting of sea ice.

While there are many tours available for tourists to see polar bears in their natural habitats, not all of them are contributing to the protection of the bear populations. It’s important to do your due diligence by supporting the operators that work hard to support conservation efforts, as well as operate to reduce their footprint on the destinations they visit. That’s where we come in.

SEEtheWILD created the KEEPitWILD Pledge in which pledges make a promise to travel responsibly and to stick to important Wildlife Guidelines. The best part is that SEEtheWILD’s partners also take this pledge, so you can feel great about the travel choices you make.

What time of year is the best to see Polar Bears?

Depending on the time of year, there are many opportunities to see polar bears.

In Canada’s Churchill, Manitoba, the best time of year is between October and November. This time of year there is 24 hours of sunlight, so you need not worry about the loss of light.

In Norway’s Spitsbergen, the best time of year to see polar bears is between May and September. Again, this is the time of year that boasts 24 hours of sunlight.

Travelers should keep in mind that in Norway’s Svalbard, polar bears are protected by law. That means there are no polar bear safaris, but that you may take a cruise around to the east and north of Spitsbergen where you may see them along the sea ice hunting.
